Trevor has so many funny little ways lately, that I have to record before I forget and this 3 yr. old stops letting me kiss his cheek all day long. I know I go on and on about him, but there's a lot to tell our future grandchildren someday.
Trevor's favorite game and one he busies himself with constantly is pretend. It kind of surprises me how deeply involved and satisfyingly entertaining it is for him. I don't remember playing pretend much... I do remember playing "boss my sisters around" type games. Hopefully I can help him throw off a desire to be too bossy.
Every pillow is now a snowboard or skateboard. The couch is a shark tank and he has to shimmie himself into place between the cushions for the true water submersion effect. We spend a lot of time playing with puppets-- so much so I've gotten lazy and given them all a southern or western accent.
He makes up friends--- the latest one named "Melvin." I couldn't figure out where that came from until I remembered a recent exposure to "Alvin and the Chipmunks." He told me Melvin is his "super duper best friend and he likes to jump and snowboard and go backwards and splash!"
He will ask just about anyone to be his (pretend) son so that he can pretend to be Daddy. He love loves loves to make believe this scenario. This includes his sweet 3 yr. old friend Mary, babysitters, Grandparens, Aunties, or cousins. He enjoys re-stating all the new relationships that come with being Daddy. "Okay, you are my Son and I am your Dad and that's your brodder, Joely Joel." Daddy is highly esteemed and he'll often say "MY Dad" instead of just "Dad." It is so sweet to me.
I remember reading a psalm with that tiny word my before God once and it really stirred me. Sometimes when I hear the word "my" before God, it sounds like there is room for other options for a creator, but this time I was moved by the relationship it represented-- the closeness to call someone your own... and belonging to God is very cool.
He has kept his Dad busy lately fixing his many toy bikes. They are like the little Tech Decks, only bikes. They have pedals that work and tiny little grips and seats and other things that constantly break after being in the hands of a 3 year old for a while. I am always so very amused and also enamored with Scott when he so painstakingly rebuilds these things for Trevor. It's soooo Scott to fix something and make it better in some way. The last toy bike is apparently going to have some preventative work done to it before Trevor gets to play with it.
This week while we were watching 'Man vs. Wild' Bear caught a snake and ate it. I changed the channel during the killing parts, but Trevor and I watched together as that crazy man ate some snake. Trevor told me cheerfully, "It's okay, it's food!" ( Strange words coming from the pickiest eater this side of the Pecos.) Then later in the show as Bear climbed a treacherous mountainside my son said he wanted to be a climber "as best as he is." This morning he asked me to cut up his banana, then told me, " "I need to eat these bugs. They're kinda crunchy. I like bugs and I make a cave for me that's because I'm Bear."
Also, to record for posterity, he has been trying out some new words lately.
I'll let the list speak for itself.

What a treasure of a (not so) little (anymore) boy you have!!!!
That locker photo had me in fits! It's like a cross between creepy, sooo silly, and interesting. Just like Trevor (ok....not the creepy part) :o). I've never even heard of a kid playing pretend that much. What an imagination!!
